ANTAC Accuses Mexican Government of Sabotaging Transporters' Strike

In the framework of the national transporters' strike on Monday, April 6th, members of the National Transporters Association (ANTAC) denounced alleged attempts to sabotage their mobilization, as well as acts of intimidation at various points across the country. Although blockades were registered on some highways, freed stretches and minor disruptions on key roads were also reported, showing an uneven development of the protest day. ANTAC Accuses of Disinformation Through a video shared on social media, a spokeswoman for the organization stated that there have been attempts to disarticulate the protest through false information. "They want to sabotage our mobilization. It's totally false," she affirmed. She also denounced the presence of authorities in protest zones as an act of pressure: "We hold the government of Mexico responsible for acts of intimidation and repression," she stated, referring that in some states the presence of state police accompanied by tow trucks was detected. The spokeswoman also warned about possible risks for the protesters: "You are responsible for their physical integrity. Anything that happens to them, you are responsible." Meanwhile, sector representatives indicated that the Mexico-Veracruz highway was unaffected, reflecting partial blockades during the protest day. According to reports on social networks, transporters and farmers in Morelos began mobilizations on the Siglo XXI highway (Puebla-Acapulco), at the height of Temoac, as well as at several key points in states such as Guadalajara, Morelos, and Toluca. In contrast, no blockades were recorded on relevant routes such as the Mexico-Puebla or the Mexico-Pachuca during the morning. False information is being spread (…) the strike has been canceled.
