Mexico Shocked by Teen's Brutal Murder

Mexico is in shock over the murder of 15-year-old Leyla Monserrat. The teenager was deceived with the promise of a 'surprise' and lured to the scene of the crime. There, she was attacked, tied to a chair, and strangled with a rope, while her assailants recorded the crime and later sent the video to her family. Initial reports suggest the motive for the murder was jealousy. Leyla had been in contact with a young man who was also of interest to one of the attackers. After luring her to the location, the teenagers subdued her and carried out the murder, which was caught on video, becoming one of the key pieces of evidence for the authorities. In the legal process, it was determined that due to their minor status, the sentences would be limited in accordance with the juvenile justice system. Britany Michel received a sentence of two years and ten months of internment, while the 13-year-old was sanctioned with 11 months of probation, in addition to a damage repair set at 5,600 pesos. The case has provoked a strong reaction on social networks, especially due to the brutality of the crime spread in the video and the sentences imposed, considered insufficient in the face of the severity of the facts.
