President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that the legal protections will not stop the election of judges, magistrates, and ministers, as the judicial reform is above them. During her visit to Yucatán, she announced that this year projects such as the expansion of Puerto Progreso, cargo service on the Maya Train, and roadworks will begin. The election is scheduled for June 1, 2025, and despite the legal protections filed, it will take place. Sheinbaum stated: "Next year we will jointly elect judges, magistrates, and ministers of the Supreme Court."
Regarding a recent trial, the judge of the Nineteenth District Court ordered the elimination of the decree validating the judicial reform within 24 hours, to which Sheinbaum responded by accusing the judge of overstepping and affirmed that they will not withdraw the publication. She highlighted that the Constitution has already been reformed and that the decisions made are backed by the will of the people.
On another note, Sheinbaum mentioned that the construction of the deep-water port of Puerto Progreso will take three years due to the difficulty of the terrain. She informed that the governor of Yucatán will soon sign an agreement to integrate the state into IMSS-Bienestar and that the construction of the Doctor Agustín O’Horan hospital, led by military engineers, will be completed by the middle of next year.
