The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has delegated the investigation of the assassination of former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS), Héctor Melesio Cuén, who was murdered on the estate of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada on July 25.
"It corresponds to the Attorney General's Office (FGR), they also, with the support of the Executive institutions - when requested - carry out this investigation and immediately communicate it, and the FGR continues its investigations; there is autonomy, and they must continue doing so," explained the president.
This arises after the FGR refuted statements from the Sinaloa Attorney General's Office, which indicated that Cuén had been murdered at a gas station, labeling the homicide reported at a gas station as a "staging."
"His blood traces correspond to the time established by the Federal Public Ministry for the moment of his homicide, which occurred many hours before the video from a gas station was disseminated locally and has already been discredited by the FGR itself," the statement reads. Additionally, the FGR claimed to have found blood traces of Rodolfo 'C', currently missing and who was part of 'El Mayo' Zambada's security team.
When asked if she has been in contact with the governor of Sinaloa after the investigation, Sheinbaum mentioned that she has communicated with Rocha Moya "on institutional matters," just as she has with other state governors. "Yes, there is contact with the 31 governors and the head of government on the institutional issues that need to be addressed," she clarified.
So far, neither the Sinaloa Attorney General's Office nor the government of Rubén Rocha Moya has responded to the allegations from the FGR regarding the detainment of Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and the murder of Héctor Melesio Cuén.
