The president accused the ministers of spreading a campaign about the lack of the rule of law in Mexico while mocking the recent participation of Minister Alfredo Gutiérrez Mena in a forum at Harvard Law School. In that event, Gutiérrez Mena presented the new legal requirements for the election of judges, ministers, and magistrates.
Sheinbaum defended the ongoing transformation in the judicial system, pointing out that all positions will go through elections and highlighting the importance of building a true rule of law in the country. She criticized the budget increase request from Minister Norma Piña for 2025, which was rejected by the Supreme Court.
The president stated that next year's budget will be adjusted according to the Constitution and that the law limiting public officials' salaries will be complied with. Sheinbaum accused the Judiciary and the media of promoting a campaign against her for disobeying a judicial resolution, an event that, according to her, has been exaggerated.
During a morning press conference, Sheinbaum mentioned that no one is talking about another relevant issue in the country, such as the García Luna case. She explained part of the new requirements to access judicial positions, highlighting the need for an average of eight and five letters of recommendation from neighbors.
