The Mexican government announced the creation of 330,000 positions in public universities during Claudia Sheinbaum's term, including the Rosario Castellanos University. The Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, stated that the aim is to increase coverage in higher education, with the goal of offering these new spots for free. The university, created by Sheinbaum when she was head of government of CDMX, plans to open 30 campuses throughout her term.
Regarding the available degrees at the Rosario Castellanos University, it is currently located only in the capital, so there is no definitive list of the degrees offered at each campus. Some of the free degrees available are a Bachelor's in Law and Criminology, Economics and Sustainable Development, as well as various specializations and master's programs in diverse areas.
The plan includes generating 150,000 positions through the construction of 30 campuses of the mentioned institution, as well as the opening of new campuses for the University of Health and the University for the Wellbeing Benito Juárez. Additionally, 85,000 new positions are expected from the National Technological Institute of Mexico and 30,000 from the National Polytechnic Institute.
President Sheinbaum argued that for years, spaces in public universities have been limited due to a neoliberal model that viewed education as a privilege rather than a right. This initiative aims to overcome the model of selective admission exams and prioritize universal access to higher education in Mexico.
