A series of allegations is shaking the Supreme Court at a time of great tension with the Government due to the advance of the judicial reform backed by Andrés Manuel López Obrador. On Tuesday, the Mexico City Attorney General's office arrested Ricardo Márquez, head of Institutional Coordination of the highest court, who has so far been identified as Chief Advisor to the Court's President, Norma Piña.
Márquez is said to have worked on intelligence issues alongside the now convicted Genaro García Luna in the Federal Security Secretariat during the administration of former President Calderón. According to sources in the Court, the capital's Attorney General's office is handling two files against Minister Alberto Pérez Dayan. One of the cases involves an alleged abuse against a low-income worker, rescued from a victim support center only to be revictimized. In the second case, the alleged victim would be a federal magistrate.
Information obtained reveals that the Mexico City Attorney General's office has contacted the Chamber of Deputies to initiate a process of impeachment against Pérez Dayan, with the aim of him losing his immunity and being able to be detained. The minister was arrested in a restaurant under accusations of alleged sexual abuse.
The scandal threatens to expand within the Court, as there are rumors of more cases of alleged sexual assaults and cover-ups.
