New Action Guide against Discrimination in Mexico

The Government of Mexico presents a new guide to prevent and eliminate discrimination in public and private institutions, promoting equal treatment and opportunities for all.

New Action Guide against Discrimination in Mexico

The Government of Mexico, through Conapred, has issued a document detailing the methodological characteristics of the Action Guide against discrimination of the Committed Institution to Inclusion (ICI). This guide is designed to assist public, private institutions and civil society organizations in strengthening equal treatment and opportunities, with the aim of preventing and eliminating discrimination. It seeks to promote real equality of opportunities and treatment, as well as to develop internal capacities to integrate non-discrimination into daily activities, encourage actions for equality and non-discrimination, and create a collaborative and peaceful working environment based on diversity.

The ICI Guide proposes a comprehensive approach to detect and prevent acts of discrimination for various reasons, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnic origin. The suggested process encompasses six phases including observation, self-criticism, responsible action, verification, and evaluation. Conapred has identified five categories in the institutional environment: hiring, working conditions, professional development, institutional climate, and public service. The guide is presented as flexible, adapting to the needs of each institution, proposing affirmative actions for continuous improvement and fostering a systematic-coherent approach to achieve equality and non-discrimination.

Once the process proposed by the ICI Guide is completed, it is expected that institutions will identify and resolve discrimination issues, improve organizational climate, make their services accessible, and promote inclusion. With continuous evaluation, the guide helps to detect new areas of opportunity and advance towards equality and non-discrimination.
