
An armed confrontation between the Mexican Army and organized crime groups in Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero, led to the detention of five alleged criminals and the death of two of them in the early morning of Thursday, October 24. The Guerrero Secretariat of Public Security reported that the events were triggered after receiving a 911 call about the clashes in the region, which led to a joint operation by authorities at the three levels of government.
The SSP of Guerrero issued a statement urging the population to remain calm, assuring that security forces were working to restore order and security in Tecpan de Galeana. Residents reported that gunshots were heard in the area from early morning, as well as roadblocks and burning vehicles in the municipal seat.
It has been indicated that the clashes involved alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and Army troops. The governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, stated that she maintained communication with the local mayor, Alba Soberanis Hernández, as soon as she learned about the situation, ordering the state Public Security Secretariat to reinforce security measures in the municipality to protect citizens.
So far, no official report has been provided on possible injured or deceased as a result of this incident.
