
In Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero, a confrontation between rival criminal groups, municipal agents, and soldiers resulted in the death of 16 people: 14 alleged hitmen and 2 municipal police officers. The events took place at 05:00 hours on Thursday on the outskirts of Tecpan de Galeana, on the road to El Moreno, heading towards the mountainous region.
During the confrontation, two municipal police officers were killed and four were injured, but they are reported to be stable. Additionally, an Army operations base near the site was shot at, prompting military personnel to defend themselves and call for reinforcements. Members of the National Guard and the Army based in El Ticuí arrived at the scene to provide support and were also attacked, responding to the aggression.
In total, 16 alleged attackers were killed and another 11 were arrested. Additionally, 16 vehicles, 15 long guns, 1 Barret rifle, 1 Minimi machine gun, numerous magazines, cartridges of various calibers, and improvised explosive devices were seized.
Three military personnel were injured in the attack and were airlifted to Acapulco for medical attention. The Attorney General's Office of the state of Guerrero arrived at the scene to begin the necessary investigations, and the Military Justice Prosecutor's Office was notified to determine if military crimes had been committed.
The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) reaffirmed its commitment to protect the Mexican population and act in accordance with human rights at all times.
