Emilio Azcárraga Jean Resigns Amid FIFA Inquiry

Mexican magnate Emilio Azcárraga Jean has requested a leave of absence from his position as chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Televisa effective immediately. The company communicated this decision in a statement sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV). The leave request comes amid the U.S. Department of Justice resolving an investigation related to FIFA, in which Televisa is involved.

Televisa reported that it continues to cooperate with the investigation of the U.S. Department of Justice. On August 29, the Mexican media company announced that it was aware that the investigation linked to FIFA could have consequences for its financial situation.

The ongoing investigation focuses on the broadcasting rights of the World Cups of 2018, 2022, 2026, and 2030. These rights are suspected of being acquired through bribery. Amid this scenario, Emilio Azcárraga Jean has decided to temporarily step away from his position at Televisa.
