Mayor of Tecpan de Galeana, in Guerrero, Alba Soberanis Hernández, accused that some of the alleged hitmen who clashed with municipal police and military arrived from Guatemala. In a video, Soberanis expressed her concern about the presence of these individuals and urged citizens to be vigilant and cooperate with authorities to maintain safety in the area.
The mayor urged the residents of Tecpan to report the presence of weapons, explosives, or criminals, and reminded them of the importance of reporting if they see any person belonging to this criminal group. Soberanis expressed her firm commitment to advance the municipality despite the security challenges they face.
On the other hand, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), Omar García Harfuch, revealed that during the confrontation, 17 alleged hitmen were killed, while 11 were arrested. Additionally, two municipal police officers lost their lives and four were injured in the incidents. García Harfuch identified the group "Gente Nueva" as responsible for the attack on another local criminal group.
Authorities continue to investigate the events and work to maintain safety in Tecpan de Galeana.
