PRD Tabasco Recognized as Local Political Party

The Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute approved this Friday the establishment of PRD Tabasco as a local political party. Following the request received at the beginning of the month, the State Council of the local electoral body determined that the Aztec sun met all legal requirements to obtain its local accreditation and have the right to prerogatives. Despite losing its national registration, in the entity they surpassed a voting threshold of 6 percent, which allowed them to reorganize and move forward as a new project.

In the extraordinary session, the executive secretary of IEPCT, Jorge Alberto Zavala Frías, explained the grounds that the members of the state electoral council used to determine that from now on, PRD Tabasco should be considered the first local political party.

After the approval, state leader Javier Cabrera Sandoval expressed that this demonstrates that the party has a future and will continue to fight for popular causes, democracy, and social justice. He affirmed: "For us, today is an emotional day, of great joy, because at the national level we lost registration, but the strength present in Tabasco helped so that through the mechanisms that the law allows us, PRD Tabasco is now a local political party that will continue to lead social struggles, be close to the people, and that obliges us to work to establish a strong party."

For his part, former senator and former candidate for governor of the state, Juan Manuel Fácil Pérez, ruled himself out for being the next leader of PRD Tabasco, arguing that the political party needs to be rejuvenated and be an option in the immediate future. He announced that there would be a period of 60 to 90 days to have a new political council and a new direct committee. Meanwhile, PRD Tabasco has four local deputies and lost all municipalities in play in the last elections, being displaced by other parties such as Movimiento Ciudadano, Labor, Green Ecologist of Mexico, and Morena, the latter winning the governorship with more than 60 percent of the votes.
