Controversy over Austerity in the Mexican Senate

An intense debate is generated in the Senate of Mexico regarding austerity, with senators revealing internal divisions and criticisms of the massive layoffs in the current administration. The opposition tries to resist majority-led judicial reforms, spearheaded by Ricardo Monreal.

Controversy over Austerity in the Mexican Senate

According to revelations from 'Political Fronts' in Excélsior, despite the alleged financial stability, austerity is falling on workers instead of the privileges of the Senate. Under the leadership of Ricardo Monreal, the Senate of the LXV Legislature left a considerable amount in the safe, benefiting the current president with sufficient resources.

It has been mentioned that opinions in the majority faction of senators are divided, which could result in surprises in the integration of the list that will be presented to the Full Chamber in the first days of November. The new administration has been involved in mass layoffs and delays in the payment of severance, claiming a lack of resources.

In another source, it is reported that the parliamentary majority of Morena is preparing to present this week the initiatives of three secondary laws related to the judicial reform. It is also expected that the project of 'constitutional supremacy' will be voted on and sent for ratification in the state legislatures.

On the other hand, sessions were held on Sunday in the Commission of Constitutional Points of the Chamber of Deputies, where satisfactory accounts were delivered. At the conclusion of the appearances of candidates to head the National Commission of Human Rights, support from the Morena bench for Rosario Piedra's reelection is in doubt.

Among the possible candidates to lead the CNDH are lawyer Paulina Hernández, the ombudsperson of Mexico City Nashielli Ramírez, and former deputy Jesús González Schmal. It is suggested that the intention to approve 'constitutional supremacy' could limit the defense of ordinary people against abuses of power.
