Claudia Sheinbaum Rejects Dialogue with Organized Crime

The head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, rejected the proposal from her party's deputy, Morena, Manuel Espino, to initiate dialogues with organized crime. Sheinbaum stated that the security strategy promoted by the federal government will be successful and that there will be no negotiations with criminals.

In her morning conference, Sheinbaum declared: "We are not going to negotiate with criminals, we will continue to build peace, addressing the causes and with zero impunity." In response to Espino's suggestions to dialogue with organized crime groups to pacify the country, the leader was clear in her stance.

Manuel Espino reiterated his proposal for the Fourth Transformation to make a pact with drug trafficking, arguing that dialogue does not imply impunity or forgiveness for the crimes committed. However, Sheinbaum defended the current security strategy implemented since the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The president of Mexico City emphasized that, despite the criticisms and debates regarding the reduction of homicides, there has been a observed decrease in the trend of the crime rate, and she is confident that the incidence will continue to gradually decrease. She dismissed the warnings from the International Monetary Fund about the impact of violence on the national economy and mentioned that, although there are entities with high levels of violence, such as Sinaloa, the security strategy will be maintained to achieve results.

Regarding the economy, Sheinbaum assured that it is solid and stated that the implemented security strategy will yield results, although she warned that it will not happen overnight. The head of government’s position is clear: there will be no approaches with organized crime and work will continue in building peace through measures that address the causes of the problem and prevent impunity.
