The governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, has mentioned the importance of active citizen participation in the recall process, preventing this initiative from becoming a political tool. Although he did not point to any specific political party, he emphasized that any group has the right to request the recall if deemed necessary.
The increasing violence in the state and the perception of inadequate solutions from the authorities have motivated a sector of the citizenry to express their discontent with Rocha Moya's management. Recently, a group of citizens appeared at the Electoral Institute of the State of Sinaloa to formalize the recall request, expressing their frustration over insecurity and the perception that the governor presents of "Sinaloa being calm" despite the rising violence.
According to the Recall Law, approved in February of this year, the only cause that can lead to the revocation of the governor's mandate is "the loss of trust." However, the conditions for this to be considered are not clearly specified. The procedure for the recall must begin three months after the third year of the mandate, which in this case would be October 31.
It is necessary for at least 10 percent of the citizens registered on the nominal list to participate, covering at least 11 municipalities, although it has not been specified how many minimum signatures are required in each locality. In light of this situation, Rubén Rocha Moya has stated that he does not fear the revocation of his mandate, as it is a process he himself promoted in the Congress of the State of Sinaloa. The governor assured that he is aware of the situation and offered to assist citizens seeking the recall, claiming to be confident that they will not be able to gather the necessary number of signatures.
