Minister Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo Resigns

Minister Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo has submitted his resignation from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), effective August 31 of next year. He is the second minister to announce his resignation, following Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena.

In the letter addressed to the Senate, Pardo emphasizes that he fulfilled his duties with independence, honesty, impartiality, objectivity, excellence, and commitment. The minister rejects the "slander, insults, and falsehoods" he has received and defends his judicial career.

The submission of the resignation implies that Pardo will not participate in the election planned by the judicial reform and will allow him to access retirement as established by law. In his statement, Pardo mentions that he was appointed as Minister of the Supreme Court in 2011 for a term that extended until February 2026. However, a recent constitutional reform facilitates the interruption of this term, setting its conclusion for August 2025.

Pardo informs that, faced with the dilemma of participating in the extraordinary electoral process to maintain his position or resign effectively in August 2025, he decides to decline his participation in such elections. After more than forty years in the Judicial Career, with an impeccable record and the pride of having performed his duties with the guiding principles of jurisdiction, he submits his resignation in legal and constitutional terms.

The minister reiterates his rejection of the attacks suffered during his work at the SCJN, highlights the importance of the Judicial Career in the administration of justice, and emphasizes that his resignation is not due to convenience but to his personal coherence.
