President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Wednesday that she will send an initiative to the Chamber of Deputies to modify the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration, which includes the creation of three federal secretariats that will start operations next year. During her morning press conference, she stated: "We will send today to the Chamber of Deputies the change to the Organic Law of the Government of Mexico."
The initiative includes the creation of the Secretariats for Women; for Sciences, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation; and for Digital Transformation. All of them are expected to come into operation starting January 1, 2025. The Digital Transformation Agency will focus on simplifying procedures and digitizing them, resulting in an additional 5% reduction without duplicating functions.
Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized that, despite the creation of three new areas, there will be a reduction in costs "from the government to the people of Mexico." Citing Benito Juárez, she stressed: "There cannot be a rich government with a poor people." The Secretariat for Women will promote and defend the rights of Mexican women, as well as develop policies to reduce gender inequality in the country.
Meanwhile, the Secretariat for Sciences, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation will be responsible for promoting and coordinating scientific activities and technological innovation, integrating humanistic disciplines to advance knowledge in Mexico. The Digital Transformation Agency will take over the management of satellites previously under the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation.
