Two ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) have submitted their resignation in recent days. The first to do so was Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz, followed now by Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo, who shared his letter on Tuesday, October 29.
In his resignation letter, Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo reviews the beginning of his judicial career, which started in February 2011 as a minister of the Highest Court. In his statement, he emphasizes the importance of the judicial career and explains that his resignation is based on personal coherence.
In his declaration, Pardo Rebolledo defends his integrity and rejects the insults received. He explains that his resignation is not a matter of convenience, but a personal issue of coherence. Furthermore, he announces that he will not participate in the extraordinary electoral process of 2025 for the appointment of new ministers of the SCJN.
The former minister also indicates that, despite his more than 40 years of judicial career with a clean record, he feels constrained by the current context, which has influenced his decision. He highlights that the recent constitutional reform that interrupts his term until August 2025 has been decisive in his resignation.
Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo, like his predecessor Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena, faced the dilemma of participating in elections established by the Judicial Reform. Both ministers have decided to resign from their positions in the SCJN amid a context of pressures and insults that have marked their departure.
