Sheinbaum Criticizes U.S. Actions in Drug Arrests

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has expressed her disapproval of the United States government regarding the methods used to carry out the arrests of Ismael Zambada García, known as 'El Mayo,' and Joaquín Guzmán López, the son of the infamous drug lord Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, who are leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel.

"It's not the arrest, but how it was done," emphasized Sheinbaum, criticizing the lack of respect for Mexico's sovereignty and the rule of law. The president stressed that "The end does not justify the means," highlighting the importance of the way such operations are conducted.

Sheinbaum elaborated on her position by stating that "Just because a drug trafficker was arrested doesn't mean one should overlook how the arrest was made," responding to comments from the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, who described the operation as a "success." The arrest took place in late July when the FBI arrested 'El Mayo' and 'El Chapo's' son in El Paso, Texas, amid controversy.

In this operation, it has been mentioned that the son allegedly deceived 'El Mayo' in a collaboration agreement to travel to the United States without the consent of Mexico, something Washington has denied. Sheinbaum has emphasized the importance of respecting Mexico and equality of conditions, as well as adhering to national and international standards in cases of arrests.

"There are ways to do this," declared the president at a press conference, referring to the need to respect institutions and the Constitution to ensure that both the means and the end are in harmony.
