PAN Senators Reject Legislative Evaluation Committee

Senators from the National Action Party (PAN) expressed their rejection of the selection of the Legislative Power Evaluation Committee, approved by Morena. They believe that the selection of the committee was a farce and a simulation, due to the obvious ties with the ruling party and Morena.

At a press conference, the coordinator of the PAN caucus, Guadalupe Murguía, criticized that the swearing-in of the committee, responsible for reviewing the suitability of candidates for judges, magistrates, and ministers, was not held in the Plenary. She denounced that the PAN was not invited, and only legislators from Morena and political actors who influenced the selection of the committee members attended.

The members of the Evaluation Committee for the election of judges proposed by legislators are Maribel Méndez, Norberto García Repper Fávila, and Ana Patricia Briseño. After their swearing-in, the PAN caucus in the Senate pointed out the affinities of the committee with what they called a 'judicial cartel' linked to Morena.

At the press conference, Guadalupe Murguía emphasized that the committee has ties to the ruling Morena party, the federal government, and legislators who influenced their designation. The PAN senators mentioned some of these ties, such as that of Ana Patricia Briseño with the wife of the president of the Chamber of Deputies and others.

The intention behind this controversy, according to the PAN senators, is to control the Judiciary to align it with the ruling party, which they consider problematic and contrary to the democratic spirit.
