Sheinbaum Announces Committee for Judicial Elections 2025

President Claudia Sheinbaum met the deadline set by the Judicial Reform of the 4T by making public the list of members of the Evaluation Committee, responsible for refining the profile of applicants for judges, magistrates, and ministers in 2025. In this context, she stated: "Those who prepared the reform initiative for the presidency were mistaken."

The Committee will be composed of three women and two men: Vanessa Romero Rocha, Mary Cruz Cortés Ornelas, Isabel Inés Romero Cruz, Arturo Zaldívar, and Javier Quijano Baz. Highlighting the latter, the Presidency Council mentioned: "Lawyer with a master's and doctorate in law, member of various bars and associations of lawyers both nationally and internationally."

Javier Quijano, recognized for his participation in the legal strategy against AMLO's disqualification in 2004, positions himself as a counterweight to retired minister Arturo Zaldívar. This decision could be seen as a defeat for Zaldívar, who aspired to participate in the Disciplinary Tribunal and return to the Judiciary.

According to sources in Palacio Nacional, the selection of the five members of the Committee aims to maintain a balanced distribution of power, avoiding concentration in a single influential figure like Zaldívar. Thus, Quijano presents himself as a necessary counterbalance in the evaluation process of applicants.

The Committee is expected to issue its operating and functioning rules to ensure its independence and impartiality in the selection process of judges, magistrates, and ministers for the year 2025.
