ReyesRodríguez Mondragón Continues as Electoral Magistrate

Magistrate Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón has announced that he will remain in his position at the Electoral Tribunal of the Judiciary of the Federation (TEPJF). Despite having previously mentioned that he would conclude his term on October 31, he has now decided to retract and continue his work as an electoral magistrate, stating that it is the most responsible action from an institutional perspective.

In a public statement, the former president of the Electoral Tribunal expressed that in the current context, it is essential to remain in office to help resolve the controversies of the extraordinary electoral process of the Judiciary. He emphasized the importance of diverse voices and judicial independence amid intense discussions regarding constitutional reforms.

Reyes Rodríguez stressed that reducing justice to a single narrative limits its purpose and the social utility of the various perspectives that enrich the rule of law. He believes that the Tribunal has the responsibility to address the controversies arising from judicial reform, and for this purpose, it is essential to have different voices and critical thinking within the collegial body.

Let us remember that on September 11, after questioning the popular election of judges, magistrates, and ministers, Rodríguez had rejected the possibility of extending his term until 2027, as allowed by the judicial reform. At that time, he announced his decision to conclude his term on October 31, stating that he did not intend to continue. However, in light of the current situation of uncertainty and institutional instability, he has reconsidered his stance and chosen to remain in his position.
