Debates on Constitutional Reforms in Mexico

In recent weeks, amidst an intense debate on constitutional reforms, Judge Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón expressed the importance of diversity of opinions and judicial independence in society. Rodríguez Mondragón pointed out that in a context of polarization, the Electoral Tribunal has the responsibility to resolve electoral controversies arising from the judicial reform, for which having diverse voices and critical thinking in the collegial body is essential.

In an unexpected turn, Judge Reyes Rodríguez Mondragón announced through his social networks that he retracted his decision to resign from his position in the Superior Chamber of the TEPJF on October 31, as he had previously stated before the approval of the 4T Judicial Reform. After reflecting on the situation, Rodríguez Mondragón considered that his institutional responsibility compelled him to continue exercising his duties as an electoral magistrate in these times of instability and institutional uncertainty.

The magistrate highlighted that the current scenario poses unprecedented challenges and emphasized the importance of not reducing the administration of justice to a single opinion, as this would impoverish its purpose and limit the social utility of the diverse perspectives necessary for the proper functioning of the rule of law.
