The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that she will present the Sembrando Vida program, created by her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, at the G20 summit in Brazil. In Sheinbaum's words, this program aims to promote life and peace through the planting of trees and support for the agricultural sector, in contrast to spending on armaments.
Sheinbaum indicated that at the G20 meeting, she will propose allocating 1% of military spending to the fight against poverty. The Sembrando Vida program, implemented during López Obrador's term, has benefited nearly 2 million farmers, with the planting of over 1.2 million trees and the reforestation of more than 1 million hectares.
Both Sheinbaum and López Obrador have suggested that Latin American countries implement this program as a measure to reduce migration and improve the quality of life for people. Sheinbaum's participation in the G20, which will take place on November 18 in Rio de Janeiro, will be her first trip abroad since she took office on October 1. It is important to note that during his term, López Obrador did not attend any G20 summits or most international forums.
