Suspension of Mega Housing Project in Iztacalco

The Granjas México neighborhood in Iztacalco is one of the areas with the least water supply in the district, which poses obstacles for the realization of a megaproject. Mayor Lourdes Paz indicated that the special construction license for demolition was granted to CIBanco S.A. one week before she took office.

Residents oppose the project due to structural damage in their homes and health issues arising from the work, which is being carried out at all hours, including early morning. The mayor prioritized the general interest over that of individuals by revoking the license and halting construction work.

A meeting was called for Wednesday with representatives from the Government of Mexico City and various agencies, including PEMEX and the Environmental Attorney's Office, to inform residents about the project's conditions. Lourdes Paz suspended the demolitions on the site where a housing complex of more than 900 homes is planned.

The mayor emphasized that the decision was made to protect the quality of life of the inhabitants of Granjas México and surrounding areas, who are already suffering from a shortage of drinking water. The project, which would include housing, parking lots, and commercial areas, is considered unfeasible for Iztacalco.
