FGE Investigation Chief Not Charged in Theft Case

The Secretary of Public Security of Sinaloa, Gerardo Mérida Sánchez, has announced that the head of the Model Unit of Criminal Investigation of the Attorney General's Office (FGE), Luis "N", will not face charges for vehicle theft. Despite being detained by the National Guard while driving a truck reported as stolen, along with weapons and communication equipment, the insurance company that owns the vehicle did not file a formal complaint, which prevents any legal action in that regard.

At a press conference, Mérida Sánchez explained: "The presentation to the judge proceeds, but it comes with one less crime or a weaker crime, the vehicle theft could not be recorded, it could not be justified because the insurer did not file a complaint (...) I wouldn't want to go any deeper, but the insurance has already been paid, we will leave it there." Although the vehicle was registered as stolen in the emergency system 911, the lack of an official complaint is an obstacle to process the case for theft.

Luis "N" serves as the head of the Model Unit of Criminal Investigation at the FGE and was detained by the National Guard while trying to evade an operation, traveling in a 2024 model truck with a theft report. Despite not facing charges for the theft of the vehicle, he will be investigated for possible crimes related to the possession of weapons and communication radios belonging to the Attorney General's Office.

The secretary stated that the Attorney General's Office will determine under what circumstances Luis "N" will be presented and for what crimes, in response to what the Control Judge determines. He also clarified that, although the official will not face charges for vehicle theft, he has been removed from his position while investigations are ongoing. This measure will remain until the legal situation of the detained agent is clarified.
