Murder of Coach Rigoberto Martínez in Oaxaca

The coach of Triqui child basketball players, Rigoberto Martínez Sandoval, was murdered on Monday night in Putla de Guerrero, Oaxaca, according to the Movement for Unification and Triqui Struggle (MULT).

According to MULT, 34-year-old Rigoberto Martínez was originally from Río Venado, in the municipality of Constancia del Rosario, and taught preschool at the San José Yosocañu agency. The statement from the Coordinator Against Repression and Justice (CCRJ) details that the events occurred while the teacher was fulfilling his duties as a sports promoter at the Normal School of Putla.

The attackers allegedly waited for Martínez outside the school, where he returned seeking refuge, but ended up being shot inside the school. A report states that the murder adds to the list of crimes committed during the state administration.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Oaxaca reported that it received a report of the lifeless body of a person identified as R.M.S. at the normal school, with gunshot wounds. A team has been deployed to conduct the corresponding investigations.

MULT condemned the crime occurring days after the deaths of sisters Adriana and Virginia Ortiz García, also activists of the movement, and called on the Government and the Attorney General's Office to stop the violence.
