Despite diplomatic conflicts with Peru, Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed Mexico's participation in the APEC meeting in Lima. A delegation will represent her, highlighting international positioning amid constitutional reforms.

Mexico Participates in APEC Amid Tensions

The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, decided to accept her country's participation in the upcoming APEC meeting to be held in Lima, Peru, despite the diplomatic conflicts with the Peruvian government in the previous administration. Sheinbaum chose to send a delegation from the Ministry of Economy in her representation, instead of attending in person, without revealing who will lead the delegation.

This decision is part of the strategy to provide certainty amid the constitutional changes being implemented in Mexico as a result of the reform to the Judiciary. Although Sheinbaum has decided to participate in international events, such as the upcoming G-20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro and a meeting with German businessmen, she does not lose connection with the conflict arising in Peru due to the departure of President Pedro Castillo, denounced as a self-coup.

In a context of high uncertainty in the markets due to the changes in Mexico, the country's participation in the APEC meeting aims to continue positioning it on the international map. Although the reform to the Judiciary is already constitutional, the controversy continues in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), where critics seek to overturn it. Sheinbaum has reiterated that the reform cannot be reversed, but the possible impacts on investors are being analyzed.

Therefore, Sheinbaum's strategy aims to maintain a relevant role for Mexico in the international arena, amid a complex economic and political scenario.
