Rosario Piedra Re-elected as Head of CNDH

Rosario Piedra Ibarra has been reelected for another five-year term at the helm of the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH). The decision was made by the majority of Morena and its allies in the Senate, who voted in favor of Piedra Ibarra's continuation with 87 votes in her favor.

Initially, the Morena bench was not convinced to support the reelection of Piedra Ibarra. However, in the end, they backed her continuation in the position, surpassing the other candidates who presented themselves.

During the session in the Senate, there were moments of tension when members of the PAN and Morena pulled on a partition that gave way due to the force exerted. There were incidents involving several senators, such as Senator Carolina Rangel, who was pushed back by the partition's poles, leading to accusations of violence.

The session lasted for hours with complaints from the opposition and support from Morena and its allies, who ultimately achieved the qualified majority to ratify Rosario Piedra Ibarra at the head of the CNDH. Despite the difficulties and recesses in the voting, the outcome tilted in favor of the current head.

Criticism against Piedra Ibarra's reelection centered on her alleged affinity with former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The election process was conducted through a ballot vote, where each senator wrote down the name of the chosen person for the position.

Although there were moments of tension and recesses during the session, an agreement was finally reached to ratify Rosario Piedra Ibarra for a new term at the head of the CNDH.
