
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has appointed Alejandro Chanona Burguete as the new director of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS) for the period 2024-2028. Chanona Burguete will take office on November 13 with the commitment to transform the faculty, focusing on innovative study programs that address the current challenges of international politics, security, and social sciences.
In the words of Alejandro Chanona: "My goal is to continue the transformation of the faculty and ensure that our study programs remain innovative, inclusive, and relevant in the face of the current challenges of international politics, security, and social sciences."
Alejandro Chanona is originally from Cintalapa, Chiapas, with an academic background that includes a bachelor's degree in International Relations from UNAM, a master's degree in European Political Studies, and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He has been a full professor at the Center for International Relations of the FCPyS and founder of the Center for European Studies at the same institution. Author, co-author, and coordinator of numerous books, chapters, and articles, Chanona has led research projects that have explored themes such as regionalism and its impact on global security.
In the political arena, Chanona has been a member of the Citizen Movement party and arrives at the FCPyS at a time of demands for change in the faculty. He is committed to working in collaboration with the academic and student community to address the challenges in the teaching of political and social sciences.
