During a session in the Senate of the Republic, Senator Lilly Téllez sparked a debate by referring to donkeys and their relationship with politicians. In her intervention, she mentioned that some people obey like donkeys, hinting at a criticism towards the behavior of certain members of the Morena party. In response, Senator Ricardo Sheffield felt addressed and defended his party from what he considered an offense.
In his reply, Ricardo Sheffield emphasized the importance of humanitarian political exercise and thanked the opportunity to accompany Lilly Téllez in press conferences. Sheffield, born in León, Guanajuato, made clear that his political commitment is based on respect and ethics. Meanwhile, Senator Téllez urged her colleagues to demonstrate their independence and ethics in their political decisions.
On the other hand, Gerardo Fernández Noroña intervened to clarify that Téllez's words were not a personal allusion towards Sheffield, but rather a general criticism. Despite the differences in opinions, an involuntary moment of humor occurred in the session, which caused laughter among those present.
Ricardo Sheffield, the current senator of Morena, previously served as the head of the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) until September 2023. In a letter addressed to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheffield expressed his intention to fully engage in the internal process of Morena for the governorship of Guanajuato. In addition to his work at Profeco, Sheffield has had a recognized political career, including serving as Mayor of León and holding various legislative responsibilities at the federal level. With a distinguished academic background, Sheffield is a lawyer with a master's degree in International Law and a Doctorate in Procedural Law.
