The president of the National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), Blanca Lilia Ibarra, expressed her concern about the possible disappearance of autonomous agencies in Mexico. In this regard, she noted that the loss of these institutions will negatively affect the guarantee of two fundamental human rights.
For his part, the commissioner president of INAI, Adrián Alcalá, stated that it is necessary to strengthen and modernize institutions, rather than eliminate them. During the National Transparency Week 2024, Alcalá emphasized the importance of preserving an autonomous, impartial, and specialized institution that protects society in the exercise of its fundamental rights.
Blanca Lilia Ibarra, commissioner of INAI, criticized that the disappearance of these autonomous bodies is being carried out without an open parliament by the Congress of the Union. She stressed that these agencies have fulfilled their function in accordance with constitutional, legal, and conventional precepts, and have demonstrated tangible results.
The debate on the disappearance of autonomous bodies, such as INAI, was postponed by the deputies for next week. The president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), Ricardo Monreal Ávila, explained that it was decided to postpone the discussion to have more time and make adjustments to the content of the opinion. Additionally, he announced that the Economic Package 2025 will also be discussed next Wednesday, with the appearance of the Secretary of Finance.
