Police Officials Dismissed in Cancun Corruption Scandal

In the last 72 hours, three members of the Citizen Security and Traffic Directorate of the municipality of Benito Juárez, Cancun, have been removed from the corporation. Two of them were separated from their positions as alleged responsible for the crime of rape, while the third member was fired for threats against a journalist.

The municipal president of Benito Juárez, Ana Paty Peralta, explained that the first case pertains to the director of the Auxiliary Police of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Traffic of Benito Juárez, identified as Alejandro 'N'. This member displayed inappropriate behavior that did not align with the commitment to serve and protect the residents. It was reported that he was in an intoxicated state in a bar and when confronted about his bill, he became violent and threatened a communicator named Raymundo Gómez.

In light of this situation, the official stated that she will not tolerate acts of abuse of authority or disturbances of public order in Benito Juárez, which is why she decided to dismiss the involved director. The other two arrested members are accused of sexual abuse and concealment to the detriment of a Colombian woman.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo informed that Saúl 'N' and Alfredo 'N', the two detained policemen, are in custody after an arrest warrant was issued against them. Peralta de la Peña reiterated that she will not allow actions that endanger the physical integrity of the residents, emphasizing the importance of public servants adhering to values and professional ethics.

In another related case, in early November, the Cancun Taxi Union was raided for the first time in its history following a series of investigations. Officials from the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office and various security forces carried out an operation at the union's facilities after the arrest of interim leader Salomón Alfonso 'M' and another board member.

The investigations suggest that the Andrés Quintana Roo Union may have been involved in activities of a criminal cell linked to drug trafficking in the municipality. Following the detention of the taxi leaders, suspicions arose about the existence of a possible clandestine grave within the union's premises, where authorities were investigating any signs of human remains.

After a week of closure, the Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo removed the sealing tags from the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Union in Cancun on November 13. Although administrative and cleaning activities were allowed to resume at the site, investigations continue regarding those involved and their possible connections to criminal groups.
