According to official figures from INEGI, during the six-year term of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, more than 200,000 people have been murdered, stated Xóchitl Gálvez. The official denounced that for some time she has been warning about the "makeup" of homicide figures to show a decrease in crime in Mexico City while Claudia Sheinbaum was head of government.
Following comments from the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, about security in the country, Xóchitl Gálvez accused the current government and the ruling party of manipulating figures of violent deaths. In a shared video, the PAN member asserted that as long as they continue to manipulate the figures, any security strategy will be ineffective.
On the other hand, Gálvez accused the judicial reform of being responsible for the loss of 275,000 jobs in the country in September of this year, according to INEGI data. The politician stated that the reform has created a lack of trust that affects legal certainty and discourages foreign investments in Mexico.
Moreover, she criticized the voting and ratification of Rosario Piedra Ibarra as head of the National Commission for Human Rights, arguing that the election did not consider the results or the training of the candidate. Gálvez emphasized that the figures of deaths from accidents have significantly increased, which raises doubts about the transparency in the management of information about security.
In her statements, Xóchitl Gálvez referred to Dwight Daniel Dyer Leal, whom she accused of manipulating COVID-19 death figures alongside Hugo López-Gatell, and pointed out that this person is now in charge of the statistics area of Government and Security at INEGI. The politician insisted that behind each figure are stories of people and that it is imperative to act with honesty and responsibility in the management of information concerning security and public health.
