On Wednesday, the coordinator of federal deputies from Morena, Ricardo Monreal, admitted that he regularly uses private helicopters to respond to emergencies. This statement generated controversy and criticism on social media, as Morena is a party that promotes republican austerity. President Claudia Sheinbaum responded on Friday during her morning conference, pointing out that no public funds were used for the trip in question and denying knowledge of the ownership of the private aircraft used.
Sheinbaum, while not directly condemning Monreal's actions, took the opportunity to remind that public officials must be examples of austerity. She emphasized the need to set an example in terms of behavior and transparency in the use of resources. Monreal, for his part, explained that using private helicopters does not involve public expenses and that he only resorts to them in emergencies or important decisions.
In statements from the Chamber of Deputies, Monreal affirmed that the use of private transportation is a practice he has maintained for years and will continue to utilize when necessary. He highlighted that he does not seek to hide his actions and that he does not use public resources to finance such movements.
