Violence erupts in Michoacán municipalities

On November 15, violence struck Michoacán's municipalities of Zinapécuaro and Queréndaro, resulting in the death of one police officer and injuries to another. The state authorities are investigating these incidents involving organized crime.


Violence erupts in Michoacán municipalities

In the early morning of Friday, November 15, the municipalities of Michoacán, Zinapécuaro, and Queréndaro were scenes of violence, resulting in at least one police officer dead and another injured. The Attorney General's Office of Michoacán issued a statement informing that an investigation file was opened to clarify these violent events.

In Queréndaro, according to local media reports, local police repelled an armed attack in which one officer lost his life and another agent was injured. The deceased was identified as José Luis O., 45 years old, while Officer María Guadalupe H., 34 years old, was injured and was transferred to a hospital for medical attention.

Authorities carried out forensic and investigative actions to determine the motive of the events and locate those responsible. The Ministry of Public Security of Michoacán deployed a joint operation with the Army, the National Guard, the state Attorney General's Office, and the municipal police to maintain order and combat any illegal activities in Zinapécuaro, Queréndaro, and Indaparapeo.

Patrols, recognitions, and aerial surveillance with helicopters and drones were conducted to locate those responsible for the attack against the Police of Queréndaro. It was reported that these violent acts were perpetrated by organized crime cells, pointing to a context of criminal violence in the region.

The state Attorney General's Office addressed the reports of both incidents and deployed personnel from the Forensic Services and Crime Scene Unit to collect evidence at the affected locations. Burnt vehicles, damage to public and private infrastructure, as well as damaged municipal police equipment from the attacks were observed.

It was also reported that communication networks in the area are being restored to facilitate investigation and citizen protection activities in the municipalities affected by the violent events.
