The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the Chancellor of Panama, Javier Martínez-Acha, held a bilateral meeting at Tocumen International Airport, highlighting the importance of strengthening relations between the two countries. During the meeting, key topics such as trade, cooperation, migration, security, and investment were discussed, with the aim of promoting mutual development and addressing common challenges.

In a gesture of solidarity, Sheinbaum expressed her support for Panama following the recent floods that affected the country, emphasizing the historic friendship between both nations. The Mexican president showed particular interest in the Panama Canal, considered a strategic infrastructure for international trade.

Mexican Chancellor Juan Ramón de la Fuente was also present at the meeting and extended an invitation to his Panamanian counterpart to visit Mexico, in order to strengthen bilateral ties and coordinate a future meeting between Sheinbaum and the Panamanian president, José Raúl Mulino.

For its part, the Panamanian chancellery highlighted the importance of exchanging ideas and joint actions as fundamental tools to advance shared objectives. The meeting is part of the first international tour of the Mexican president since she took office on October 1. Subsequently, Sheinbaum headed to Rio de Janeiro for the G20 meeting in Brazil on a commercial flight, in line with the principle of republican austerity of her government.
