The morning of January 22 was shaken by the news that Martín Anselmi, technical director of Cruz Azul, is about to leave his position to join Porto. This transfer has been under negotiation since last November, and sources say that Anselmi already had an agreement with the Portuguese team. His departure will represent a challenge for the celeste management, which invested around 75 million dollars in signings under the leadership of the Argentine strategist.
In light of Anselmi's imminent departure, Cruz Azul has already begun searching for his replacement. Among the candidates, the name of Efraín Juárez, a Mexican coach who recently achieved a historic double with Atlético Nacional in just four months, stands out. Other options considered by the capital team include Diego Alonso, currently without a team, and Vicente Sánchez, coach of the U-23 team.
One of the challenges for the new head coach will be the possible departure of some key players from the celeste team. Among them are Kevin Mier, a standout goalkeeper, and Erik Lira, a defender who secured a place in the starting eleven. Additionally, Charly Rodríguez, a leading midfielder, who was captain of the team and a constant presence in the call-ups for the Mexican National Team.
It is worth noting that, due to contractual clauses, Mexican players are the most likely to leave the club. Mier has a high buyout clause, while Lira and Rodríguez are close to finishing their contracts in December and have not yet renewed.
