Martín Anselmi Set to Leave Cruz Azul for Porto

The Cruz Azul project is about to dismantle, after it was reported that Martín Anselmi will leave the club to coach in European football. Anselmi will coach FC Porto in Portugal. According to León Lecanda from ESPN, the Argentine strategist is sought by Porto and his transfer could be made official in the next few hours. Although Cruz Azul has secured their coach with a clause of approximately 8 million dollars, that amount would be paid by Porto, as Anselmi also wishes to coach in Europe.

Negotiations between the management have advanced, as Anselmi has a verbal agreement with the Lusitanian club. This would mean he would leave the cement team along with his entire coaching staff. Including his assistants Facundo Oreja, Luis Pastur, fitness coach Diego Bottaioli, his assistant Alberto Sigata, and goalkeeper coach Darío Herrera.

The match in which Cruz Azul will face Puebla next Saturday, corresponding to the 3rd round of the Clausura 2025, will be the last in which Martín Anselmi is in charge of the team. This match represents a hard blow to the sky blue sports project, as Anselmi had brought the team back to the top spots after several tournaments without qualifying for the Liguilla. Despite the management fulfilling the reinforcements he requested to build the squad to his liking, seeking the Liga MX title under his direction will not be possible.
