Martín Anselmi Nears Departure from Cruz Azul

The Argentine Martín Anselmi is about to leave Cruz Azul of Liga MX, after a year with the team in which the management invested more than 60 million dollars in signings. Anselmi would join Porto in Portugal from Cruz Azul.

During his year at Cruz Azul, Anselmi has been supported by the management led by Uruguayan Iván Alonso, signing players that fit his style of play. Among the first signings requested by Anselmi were Kevin Mier, Gabriel Fernández, Camilo Cándido, Gonzalo Piovi, and Lorenzo Faravelli, with an investment of almost 20 million dollars.

Despite reaching the final of the Clausura 2024, Cruz Azul failed to win the title. In the Apertura 2024, Anselmi requested new reinforcements like Luis Romo, Giorgios Giakoumakis, Andrés Montaño, and Jorge Sánchez, with an investment of 27 million dollars. However, the team was eliminated in the semifinals by América.

For the Clausura 2025, the management supported Anselmi with an injection of 14 million dollars to sign Omar Campos, Jesús Orozco, Emmanuel Ochoa, and Luka Romero. Despite these moves, the press places Anselmi close to signing with Porto in Portugal, leaving Cruz Azul without direction and generating various memes about the situation.
