TelevisaUnivision Gains Olympic Broadcast Rights Until 2032

TelevisaUnivision is recognized as a leader in sports coverage in Spanish and recently obtained the broadcasting rights for the Olympic Games until 2032. According to data from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Paris 2024 Olympic Games had an audience of 84% of the potential global population, which equates to about 5 billion people.

Regarding the medals won by Mexico in the Olympic Games, despite athletes like Prisca Awiti in judo and Marco Verde in boxing reaching finals in Paris 2024, the Mexican delegation did not manage to obtain gold medals in that edition. In total, Mexico has achieved 78 medals in the Summer Olympic Games, distributed among 13 gold, 27 silver, and 38 bronze. The last gold medal for Mexico was in London 2012, and they will seek to break that streak in Los Angeles 2028.

The agreement between TelevisaUnivision and the IOC also includes the broadcasting of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics, the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympics, and the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympics, as well as the Youth Olympic Games held during this period.

Among the conditions of the contract, it is stipulated that TelevisaUnivision must broadcast at least 200 hours of open television coverage of the Summer Olympic Games, in addition to coverage of the Winter Games and the Youth Games. The company committed to offering extensive coverage across all platforms over the next eight years for all of Mexico, strengthening Olympic sports culture and supporting Mexican athletes.

Additionally, it is planned that TelevisaUnivision will have the right to sublicense the broadcasts in Mexico, which will further expand the reach of the Olympic Games in the country. Furthermore, the broadcasts on open television will be complemented by simultaneous transmissions on ViX, TelevisaUnivision's streaming platform, so that followers can enjoy the events on various devices and formats. The relationship between TelevisaUnivision and the Olympic Games dates back to 1964, when they first broadcast the Tokyo Games.
