Mexican driver Sergio Checo Pérez will have to wait a year to return to Formula 1 after Red Bull ended its relationship with him. However, there is a possibility he could return to the Grand Circus with Cadillac in 2026. In the 2024 season, Checo Pérez had a good start, reaching the podium four times in the first five races. However, starting from the Miami Grand Prix, he did not finish in the Top 3 again and ended in eighth place in the drivers' championship with 152 points.
Despite his teammate Max Verstappen becoming world champion, Red Bull did not earn enough points to win the constructors' championship, finishing in third place. According to Christian Horner, head of Red Bull, Checo Pérez's bad streak began from the Monaco Grand Prix, and from that moment, they lost too many points, affecting their chances in the championship.
Horner highlighted that Sergio's performance was crucial in the loss of the constructors' title, as the gap with the second car was very large from that point in the season. Despite attempts to resolve the Mexican's issues, it resulted in a costly loss of points in the constructors' championship.
Even though he had a contract with Red Bull, the Austrian team decided to part ways with Checo Pérez, ending a 14-year career for the driver in Formula 1. Horner mentioned that they won more races than any other team during the year and had the same number of pole positions as McLaren, highlighting the team's achievements throughout the season.
