Pumas Pursues Free Agent Jonathan Rodríguez

The Pumas club of UNAM seeks to close its roster by signing a player who is a free agent before the registration of uncontracted players in Liga MX closes on March 7. Following the departure of Chino Huerta to Anderlecht in Belgium, the team has been searching for a quality forward who can lead the attack. One of the names that has gained traction in recent hours is Jonathan Rodríguez, a champion scorer with teams like Cruz Azul, América, and Santos Laguna.

Jonathan Rodríguez left Mexico for MLS in search of new challenges, but it is rumored that his desire is to return to a more competitive environment. In light of this possibility, Pumas has begun to evaluate the contractual conditions of the player with the hope that he returns to the capital to join the team. However, so far, the interest of the felines has not gone beyond inquiries.

If Pumas wishes to incorporate Jonathan Rodríguez, they would have to wait until summer, as the registration for signings closed on February 2. Additionally, they would need to negotiate with the Portland Timbers, the club with which he is linked until December 2026, and face possible complications regarding his salary, given that it is not common for the UNAM team to hire players with high salaries.

These circumstances leave Pumas in a complicated situation, with little hope of strengthening its roster with a new player in the short term.
