Recently, the portal Sportico drew attention by revealing the list of the 100 highest-paid athletes in the world, led by Cristiano Ronaldo with 260 million dollars. Other prominent figures on the list include Stephen Curry with 153.8 million, Tyson Fury with 147 million, Lionel Messi with 135 million, and LeBron James with 133.2 million. However, many were wondering if any Mexican athlete was among them.
Canelo Álvarez is the only Mexican representative on the list, ranking number 20 with 73 million dollars, of which 65 million comes from his salary and 8 from endorsements. The boxer is internationally recognized as a leading figure in the 168 pounds category and one of the main references in his sport.
The total amount generated by the 100 athletes on the list amounts to 6.2 billion dollars a year, showing a 14% increase compared to the previous year. It is important to highlight that there are no women present on this list for the second consecutive year. A striking fact is that the quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings, Daniel Jones, with an income of 37.5 million dollars, surpasses the earnings of the highest-paid female athlete, Coco Gauff, who makes 30.4 million, being very close to making the ranking.
Additionally, the 15 highest-paid women in the world in 2024 collectively earned 221 million dollars, representing a 27% increase compared to 2023, placing them below the first place in the overall ranking.
