In Matchday 8 of the Clausura 2025 of Liga MX, an incident of violence occurred at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario during the match between América and Pumas. This situation resulted in the arrest of 8 individuals, who were handed over to the relevant authorities.
According to Liga BBVA MX, the disturbances in the stadium required the intervention of authorities to control the situation. Among those arrested was a former captain of the Burros Blancos team from the National Polytechnic Institute, who was allegedly involved in an assault in the stands.
The IPN issued a statement condemning the behavior of its former player and asserting that it disapproves of any acts of violence in its stadium, highlighting its tradition as a family space and a place for coexistence. Despite the assailant not carrying any institutional identification, the IPN expressed its rejection of the incident and announced that it would conduct an internal investigation regarding it.
Club Universidad Nacional, the Pumas team, requested from Liga MX the identities of the 8 detained individuals through the FAN ID program that registers fans. In a statement, the club expressed its rejection of violence and reaffirmed its commitment to the values of coexistence and respect in its stadium.
Liga MX also spoke out about the incident, strongly condemning the acts of violence that occurred during the match between América and Pumas. It is expected that appropriate measures will be taken to address this situation and prevent future episodes of this nature within football stadiums.
