The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has imposed a 57-year suspension on seven players involved in match manipulation, in line with the FMF's Sanction Regulations and the ethical codes of FIFA and the federation itself. To prevent these illegal practices, the FMF issued a statement on February 19 to all league presidents, including amateur leagues, warning about the legal consequences of participating in these acts.
After the controversy and the sanctions announced against Liga MX players for match-fixing, the FMF has tightened its measures to dissociate itself from the case and prevent similar future offenses. The federation has communicated that it will file a formal complaint with the Attorney General's Office as part of the actions implemented to combat these illicit behaviors, as well as notifying FIFA about the sanctions applied for its international recognition.
To eradicate illegal betting, the FMF has intensified its monitoring system through alerts, using the services of Genius Sports, endorsed by FIFA. Since 2021, the federation has been collaborating with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to implement international practices that safeguard the integrity of Mexican sports.
Other measures include the filing of formal complaints, promoting stricter legislation for those responsible for match manipulation, and conducting awareness workshops in conjunction with the Mexican Footballers Association (AMFPRO). The FMF is committed to continuing to work with federal authorities to prevent and investigate these cases, and to strengthen its Integrity Department to ensure transparency and justice in all competitions.
With these actions, the FMF aims to safeguard the reputation and integrity of Mexican football, sending a strong message against illegal betting and corruption in sport.
