Illegal Betting Scandal in Mexican Football

In the Expansion League of Mexican football, specifically in the Clausura 2025 tournament, a scandal related to illegal betting has erupted involving seven players from the teams Correcaminos and Real de Apodaca. These footballers were reported by the Mexican Football Federation to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) due to allegations of match-fixing.

Following an investigation, the players received a combined sanction of more than 50 years. Six of these players belonged to Real Apodaca of the Premier League, while one was in Correcaminos UAT, both teams from the Mexican third division. Although the names of those involved have not been revealed, three footballers received sanctions of seven years, and another two were penalized with two years each.

The Disciplinary Commission of the Mexican Football Federation stated that the implicated players will not be allowed to participate in any sports or administrative area in the future. Additionally, the clubs Real Apodaca and Correcaminos were warned about the consequences of repeating such activities, and in the event of a recurrence, they could be indefinitely disaffiliated from the FMF.

The FMF announced that it will file a complaint with the FGR regarding illegal betting, and will also seek to promote a legislative initiative in the Mexican Congress to strengthen sanctions and more effectively address such cases in Mexican football. Furthermore, awareness workshops will be conducted on the importance of preserving the integrity of the sport and the professional careers of footballers.

In this context, the FMF issued a statement reiterating its absolute rejection of these illegal practices and highlighting its commitment to promoting transparency, justice, and integrity in Mexican football.
