The strategist of the Mexican National Team, Javier Aguirre, recently announced the list of call-ups for the upcoming match against Canada in the semifinals of the Nations League. This call-up generated divided opinions due to the names selected to seek a spot in the final.
One of Aguirre's most prominent critics was Hugo Sánchez, who defended Henry Martín for not being considered to make room for Raúl Jiménez and Santiago Giménez. During an intervention on ESPN's Futbol Picante program, the former player expressed his discontent with the choice of forwards, stating that Henry is not receiving the proper recognition from the coach due to his performance and his decision to remain in Liga MX.
"I feel like what Henry Martín is showing with his leadership, personality, and hierarchy as a forward is not being valued. If Henry Martín stayed in Mexico and didn’t go to Europe, it is to be valued and taken into more account," Hugo Sánchez stated firmly.
Some fans on social media supported this opinion, highlighting Henry's qualities to compete for a starting spot against the goal scorers from the European leagues.
The semifinal match between Mexico and Canada is scheduled for Thursday, March 20 at 8:30 PM. If Mexico advances to the final, they will play on Sunday, March 23 at 7:30 PM. The Mexican National Team aims to stand out in the tournament to take advantage of the scarce opportunities for official matches in their preparation calendar for the 2026 World Cup.
