The 2026 World Cup is getting closer to starting, and it has been revealed that the government of Mexico is preparing the design of commemorative coins to highlight the cultural richness of the country and the passion for football. The Senate of the Republic has approved the minting of these numismatic pieces, awaiting a vote in the plenary and submission to the Chamber of Deputies. The coins will be made of three different materials: bimetallic (10 peso coins), silver (20 peso coins), and gold (25 peso coins).
Given the high probability that the project will take place, Publimetro Mexico used artificial intelligence to visualize the designs of the numismatic pieces, showing images of how they could look.
Mexico will host the 2026 World Cup alongside the United States and Canada. The country will host a total of 13 matches distributed as follows: five matches at Estadio Azteca, including three group stage matches (two of the Mexican National Team), one round of 16 match, and another quarterfinal; four group stage matches at Estadio Akron, one of which will be for the National Team; and four matches at Estadio BBVA, three in the group stage and one in the round of 16.
As the host, the Mexican National Team will play the inaugural match on June 11 at Estadio Azteca against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
